Anub'arak is the final boss in the Trial of the Crusader/Trial of the Grand Crusader, ToC/TotGC and here we outline the main tactic that is commonly used to defeat him.

Anub'arak Abilities

Permafrost: Anub'Arak freezes the ground. Prevents borrowing reduces movement speed by 70%.

Spider Frenzy (12 yard AOE): Increases attack and casting speeds of burrower adds by 50%

Pursued by Anub'arak: Anub'arak is pursuing you.

Pursuing Spikes (9 seconds duration): Anub'arak fires a spike through the floor, impaling all targets within 4 yards, dealing 2828 to 3172 damage and knocking them up in the air . This attack ignores armor. Triggers Impale every 1 sec. for 9 sec.

Impale: Anub'arak fires spikes up through the floor, doing 11310 to 12690 Physical damage to anyone in their path. This attack ignores armor, but cannot penetrate Permafrost.

Submerge: Anub'arak burrows into the ground. Cannot be cast on Permafrost.

Leeching Swarm: Anub'arak releases a swarm of insects that leech 10% of each target's current health every 1 sec, and heal Anub'arak. A minimum of 250 health will be leeched.

Strategy

Phase One: Tank on Permafrost and Adds

Anub'arak has a hard hitting melee attack and also a frontal cone cleave style attack, this makes it important to have him facing away from the raid and ensure that all melee members are in their optimal dps positions of being behind the boss (they should be anyway unless tactics dictate otherwise!).

During phase one Nurubian Burrower adds will spawn, these adds will stack a debuff on the add tank that increases the damage received and need to be picked up immediately and DPS'ed down, again this is another fight in the Trial of the Crusader that incorporates add control. If you dont kill these adds quick enough the debuff will soon increase the damage to very high levels. It is possible to have them off tanked throughout the whole fight but you need very good healers and extremely well kitted tanks with a high amount of HP to soak the damage.

These adds MUST be tanked and MUST be DPS'd down before the boss hit's 30% and enters phase three.

Phase Two: Burrowing

During this phase he will [Pursue] a member of the raid team with his spikes, once he reaches them he will cast [Impale] which can hit for some heavy damage but can be mitigated by standing on [Permafrost] which it cannot penetrate.

During this phase he will be summoning more Nurubian Burrowers and Swarm Scarabs, the Scarabs have low HP and should be AoE'd down as quickly as possible as they also apply the same debuff as the Nurubian Burrowers which can be enough to kill your tanks should they get too many stacks of the debuff while dealing with adds or the boss.

Once you have killed all the adds then you will re-enter phase one with Anub'arak coming to the surface making him available to DPS.

Phase Three: Occurs at 30% Health

At this stage in the fight he will be casting Leeching Swarm, this is a nasty ability and will make the fight seem longer that you originally planned for, be aware of this, especially healers spacing out their mana reserves. This ability will drain 10% hp from the effected player per second while healing Anub'arak for roughly the same amount, this can have a devastating effect and is essentially a soft rage timer due to mana and dps constraints.

It is not advisable for full raid healing to be put into practice here as the amount of damage inflicted and more importantly the amount of healing that Anub'arak receives is based on a percentage. This is about healing control, your healers need to be able to keep your raid alive on the bare minimum needed, the less they heal the less you have to dps the boss and the faster the kill. Keep the tanks topped off at 100% and keep the DPS at around 30% otherwise you have your healers and DPS fighting against each other in a race against the clock.
