Focus Magic: Blink and you’ll miss it.

10

As you may have noticed, this issue of Focus Magic marks the 10th published edition of the most awesome Mage blog around; right here on crusaderscoliseum.com! And despite being happy to admit, the other class blogs (with a soft spot for Inner Fire) on the site are excellently crafted, there’s just nothing quite like the satisfaction and various thrills you get from playing a crafty, skilful, mana-hungry Mage. To celebrate the whole Double Figures thing, I thought maybe it would be fitting to dedicate an article to how much I LOVE Mages. And why shouldn’t I? They’re just so spectacularly brilliant! So, my loyal readers (Of whom I can’t thank you enough for your continued support and readership), I give you, the greatest Top 10 list of all-time…

10 REASONS WHY I LOVE MAGES!

To summarize, we’ll be counting down to what (in my opinion) are the best reasons to love Mages. Chances are I will miss some key points out, and I might pick up some lesser known points about Mages that we may take for granted. But the fact of the matter is, there are defiantly more than 10 reasons to love a Mage. Which is why, although I’m was very excited about writing this article; it was a right bugger to select My Top 10. Feel free to compile your own Top 10 list and post it in the comments! But, back to reality… let’s get into the thick of it!

10 – Using our cleverness to make ourselves cleverer – It’s no secret that Mages can totally outsmart any other class in World of Warcraft. Not to mention we’re much better looking than the rest. Our spells are pretty, our armour is pretty – I could go on. But one of the best things about Mages is that they are so clever, they have the ability to increase their Intelligence further, at just a flick of the wrist. Arcane/Dalaran Intellect/Brilliance – One of the reasons every group wants a Mage, having access to higher Intellect grants a range of extra buffs within itself, making this a great utility tool in a PvP and a PvE environment.

9 – The ability to stop enemies in their tracks and still make it look cool – No pun intended, I promise. The Mage has access to a wide range of snaring and slowing effects, but none are more potent at doing its job then Frost Nova. In my opinion, this is one of the best spells in a Mage’s book, freezing the enemy in place for a short period of time, giving us the time we need to hatch a dastardly plan. We Mages may be awesome, but we can be very slow. But I suppose that’s why Blizzard gave us a lot of Utility Travel spells.

8 – Able to craft our own ‘shinies’ and jewellery – In the form of Mana Gem, Mages are given access to be able to create various gems, ranging from Jades to Sapphires, purely out of thin air! Despite having this awesome trait, these gems are extremely useful, acting as a short mana boost whenever we desire to use them. If only we could find a way to sell off these shoddy bubblegum-machine quality jewellery…

7 – Manipulating basic beverages to become Divine beings immune to all damage – From this I mean, we are able to Turn Water into Ice and encase ourselves in it. While in this Block of Ice (Or as it’s more commonly known, Ice Block) we become immune from all damage for the duration. And if we time it right, we can Ice Block ourselves whilst in mid-air making it look like we’re trying to escape it. Looks awesome.

6 – Can convert clicks on our mice to satisfying large yellow numbers – Most time we click a Mage button, chances are it’ll do damage to something. That’s just the way of the mage. And being able to get Damage (Hugh damage, might I add) from just clicking a button seems pretty incredible. And the fact that these numbers are so satisfying to us and give us bragging right when ours are the biggest (numbers that is), it’s a nice talent to have. Not to mention the amount of joy we get from crits.

5 – We can get ourselves and others to places more quickly than British Airways – With the form of Teleportals; we can get to a major city in most cases (Excluding Stonard), in less than 10 seconds. At the cost of a reagent which costs a miniscule amount of silver, we can charge different amounts of gold to others for our services. And it’s always nice to have something over British Airways. Although, it is important to note that whenever you take a portal from a Mage, it is your full responsibility should you arrive somewhere you don’t want to. If you haven’t heard of a portal lottery, get the Mage in your next raid group to set one up at the end. Then witness the nerdrage.

4 – Can create ourselves a larger range of sandwiches and other pastry wrapped goods than Greggs, and a wider range of beverages than Coca-Cola – From this, I mean Conjure Food/Water. A great spell for any Mage, saving us not only money from those thieving Vendors we adore so much, but saving us time and effort. Besides, something that’s made from thin air tastes so much better. We’re also so ridiculously talented; we can summon a table from the Nether to feed our fellow starving group buddies. Eating in style, with piping hot Strudels, Cookies, and staying courteous at the same time! Who says manners are dead!

3 – Now you see me, now you don’t – Admit it. You know seeing that Mage vanish into Nothing is awesome. And it’s even more awesome being the Mage who does the vanishing. Creating a whole new world of our own for the duration of the spell, we suddenly feel strangely like what it is to be a Warlock. Alone. And it’s horrible. But it’s still awesome, because *you can’t see us* na-na-nana-na! If we combine our abilities and attempt to use that thing we stay away from – a brain – we can vanish and then teleport to an unknown location, leaving our observer completely baffled.

2 – Mali-BOOM-BOOM – Firstly, if you haven’t seen the new advert for Malibu, watch it when you get the chance – I find it pretty funny. Which is why that’s the inspiration for number 2 on my list. Well, that and Living BOOM! Ok, sorry, it’s just so tempting. Living Bomb. How amazing. Watching people explode and make other people explode and start a chain reaction of explosions with more impact than a nuclear war is pretty intense. Despite the evil feeling you get inside you (Yes, we know you get it), it’s relatively easy to achieve this brilliant feat of destruction.

So, as we near the very end of our list, there is only one more thing, I think – that truly makes the grade. This could only be…

1 – Even when we’re alone, we outnumber you – Mirror Image! It’s true, in a head-on 1-on-1 stare-down between yourself and an enemy, a Mage has the ability to summon his posse of servants from the ghetto, and use them for his/her bidding. As evil as it may seem to enslave fellow Mages, it’s actually harmless to them, as chances are they’ll die anyways. But hey, who doesn’t want to look at handsome copies of their handsome selves doing their handsome work? Whether it’s for showing off in Dalaran, being the resident chav of Wintergrasp, Mirror Images holds potential and awesomeness to be my favourite thing about Mages.

So this brings this week's edition of Focus Magic to a close. Next week we’ll either be venturing into the world of levelling, or just awesome things you can accomplish should you ever get bored on your Mage. Until then…
