Which tanks for Icecrown part 2
Icecrown Citadel: Chill of the Throne
Which tanks to use - Part 2
In a follow up to my original article on the Chill of the Throne zonewide buff for mobs inside Icecrown Citadel raid instance I've done some more research and it looks as if my initial thoughts that Paladins and Warriors are the tanks to focus on are not 100% accurate.Lets take this to another level and do a quick overview of why that might be the case and as a RL you should make sure to give our druid tanks a fair crack of the whip if not more so.
On the surface of things the Chill of the Throne debuff seems like it will effect our druid tanks the most, purely because that is its only avoidance. But just because its the only avoidance stat for a druid doesnt mean that it's not effecting every tank in the raid. ALL tanks will be losing that 20% and although the other tanks can try to make up for it by stacking some block or parry, 20% is a hell of a lot more to find of one stat, especially when parry suffers diminishing returns and doesnt scale as well. When you consider itemisation that is currently in game dodge rating forms a lot of the avoidance stats that are on a great deal of pieces of kit that people classify as tanking, that means you can bet your left nut that any and all tanks will have some of this stat and most will be hitting the 20% and over so will get the full effect of the Chill of the Throne.
Now remember that this is a buff that happens to each Mob within the instance, it is NOT a debuff that affects players, this affects everyone, your entire raid group but because it's an effect on each mob it gets calculate after all diminishing returns have been calculated. I cant take any credit for the math and theory crafting behind this, for that you really need to hop on over to WoW Think Tank: Icewell radiance and check out the details, also the follow up post WoW Think Tank: Icewell radiance part 2
Basically what Kalon is saying is that because bears have higher armor and higher health and the reason for the developers putting the Chill of the Throne in the game is to reduce avoidance so they can reduce how hard the bosses have to hit then they are in a prime position to hit the ground running.
I take my previous comments back, and i'm heading back to the drawing board to decide who is going to push us forward into Icecrown, more than likely it's back to the people i can rely on turning up and who do the job week in week out rather than due to class/buff restrictions.
Look after your druids folks, i think your going to need them ;)
