Raid Roll Rage and the Drama Unfolds
Hey folks,
A quick post as im about to leave work in about 15-20 minutes but i wanted to just put some general thoughts up.
Last night we went raiding 25 man ToC with an alliance guild. Our first run together so there were a few reservations and lots of hope that things will work well and we have ourselves a rewarding set of 25 mans ahead of us on a weekly basis.
One thing that did happen however was something that set me thinking. One member of our raid absolutely hates the Raid Roll. Basically because a week or so ago they got stuffed over with that new addon that means you can fake the winner of a raid role or mess with priorities or something.
Now the guild we were running with were great and we are going back again next reset and we have no problems with the way things were done whatsoever so I just want to make that clear right away.
We were using Raid Rolls for the Trophy of the Crusade and the Crusaders Orbs, we had 3 pugs with us and the rest were members of our 2 guilds. The first two Trophy of the Crusades went to 2 of the pugs, sods law!
The last one was raid rolled and due to the slight differences in interface layout the person we thought was going to win, didnt and someone else got the Trophy. That wasnt an issue as they had already got a piece of loot so were pretty happy with the run anyway.
However the other person in our raid was getting more and more irate about it. Temper was starting to snowball and it ended with toys being thrown out the pram, and the person deciding the best way to get the desired result was to keep pushing the subject while getting louder and more profane. That doesnt really work very well with me, i'm just not timid enough to be snowballed and ploughed over like a ten ton truck, in fact it makes me dig my heals in and become confrontational, a failing of mine which I should try and rectify. So I need to make certain apologies about my own temper flaring right back, although I still dont feel I was wrong, I perhaps could have diffused the situation better.
But it led me to thinking that if your going to Raid Roll then there needs to be the use of an addon that announces who is where on the lineup before the roll or a little bit of trust.
The team member objecting wanted 25 /roll to happen. Now i'm not keen on that for a number of reasons. Firstly someone always takes ages to roll, someone forgets, gets DC or whatever and then some kind of discussion happens while people tap their foot impatiently waiting to move on to the next boss. Secondly it means being hit by a wall of rolls and the ensuing conversation about lol you rolled a 1 versus gtz you rolled 100 when all i want to do is get on with the next boss.
Needless to say we wont be changing the looting rules for 1 person when 24 people seem quite happy, but I do think that Blizzard could provide a /Raid Roll command.
Feelings of fairness need to be taken into consideration, but ill conceived preconceptions due to past experience need to be left at the door.
What do you guys think? Raid Roll or /roll x 25?
